Uploading Memories

Bert asked me early in the week if I had a copy of the presentation we made for the King Me Despidida for us (which, was great, btw, and I'd have to thank the juniors at the time). It dawned on me that since that time, there were I think a combined 8 times that our 2 computers were formatted. I always tell the technician to just keep my folder intact and we're good (selfish ako eh. malay ko ba kun mei importanteng tinatago un ibang gumagamit). So I kinda felt I still had a copy, but I really wasn't sure.

Last night, during the halftime break of Liverpool vs Manu (4-1! Eat that ManU fans!), I decided to look for it in the computer. To my horror, I only have the pictures. But as a scavenger of files, I managed to dig it up in one of the folders which I don't know how it got there. And before I uploaded it, I checked first if it works, and if it's full. It was, thankfully.

While watching it though, and thinking of all those people, I felt as if I came up short on the descriptions. I mean, I think I could still say more about them than what I came up in the video. Well, except for Pam. Mei grudge ako eh.

Funny, it seems I got to really know my classmates when we got out of the classroom. Well, most of them at least. But then again, it WAS a description of who we were back in college, and it wasn't all from me, I had help back then in the form of Robert (mei isa pa ba? feeling ko 3 tayo eh.) so it's not all a subjective description of you from me, but rather, seconded by Bert. Sorry naman at ndi tayo magkatropang malupit nun college.

Promise, I'll make it up sa 5th year anniv natin. Deym, why not 2011? Where are we at UST's 400th, di ba (except Pam.)? Para significant.

Bound to be Fat

So I went to the dentist 2 weeks ago to clean up some problematic teeth. The dentist had a hard time working on it, because of the constant discharge of saliva.

Dentist: Mabilis ka siguro kumain no?
Me: Uhm.. Ndi po eh. (Anyone who ate with me should know.)
Dentist: Ah, siguro malakas ka kumain.
Me: ....
<after the whole process>
Me: Doc, bakit nyo nga pala natanung kanina un tungkol sa pagkain?
Dentist: Kasi anlakas ng discharge ng saliva mo eh.
Me: Anu po ibig sabihin nun?
Dentist: Ayun, either malakas ka kumain o mabilis ka kumain. Kasi parang gripo un laway mo pag nagbukas un bibig mo eh. Ang nangyayari kasi, pagbukas ng bibig mo, akala ng glands mo eh mei papasok na pagkain, kaya natural na reaction nila eh magdicharge ng saliva for digestion.

Deym. So that means, either I start claiming I eat fast or I'm bound to add up to my pregnant-worthy weight. Pregnant worthy because my cousin was 157lbs when she was pregnant. I was 159lbs as of early Feb, after a hefty meal, according to the scale of Mercury Drug Glorietta.

I need to shed off some weight before the 28th for Puerto, but as it seems, my body naturally wants to constantly eat something. Demmit. Ang hirap dumisiplina.

IT Sale @ Singapore

March 12-15 marks another IT sale in Singapore. I'm not well off right now, but bargains galore left me wanting stuff.

My sis was torn into getting a Nikon D60 and a SE W910i. I suggested that she take the phone, just because her old phone looks like crap already. As in nakakaawa na. But she's bent on getting a DSLR because my cousin's going to get one, just so they can go to photography classes together. She's going to buy one or the other.

I'll let her fill in what happened next.

As for me, I went to Greenhills yesterday for impulse spending, that is, fixing my PSP analog. In the process, we checked out phones Che might be interested in. We saw a stall selling an Asus P525 for 8.5k. I was interested, since it still had a nice exterior, but eventually decided against it (not that I'm buying it or anything) because it had the same problem I had with mine: a defective motherboard (you'll know because it turns off involuntarily). Ate suddenly calls from out of the blue and tells me that the P525 was being sold there for around 19k, while the P527 (which I assume as being obviously a higher version of the P525) for only around 12k. Now I was hooked. Che was too. I mean, you get that kind of phone for 12k? It's not half bad.

So I get on my research chair and look for it. It turns out it's pretty sluggish. And while I'm on my research chair, of course I'm gonna look for what I want already. Just when I thought I got over the "wanting a PDA" phase because of other matters, I'm craving for one once again.

And now,
since the Verzio Envii doesn't seem to be doing too well, and Verzio is seemingly slowly pulling their products out, I'm looking at a more "established" brand which would keep it's products here for years to come.

Hence, the HTC Touch Viva, although not as good as the Envii (feature-wise, in my opinion), is my new craving. At 21k, it's good enough for a PDA phone, and it's got Wi-Fi.

For an HTC product, this is a great bargain... It's better if it's even cheaper in the IT sale.

Hopefully, ate would split it with me. haha...

...Philo 07...

...tuesdays...

Much as I love Thursdays, Tuesdays have go to be the stressful day of the week. It's supposed to be Monday, but Monday is too overrated I think. Sure, it's the 1st day after the weekend, and you feel as if it abruptly cut your weekend short, but Tuesday's got to be worse.

I start with traffic: Monday is bad, always. But Tuesday seems far worse. I left home 20mins earlier than I did yesterday, and I got to the office 10mins later than I did yesterday. I feel as if most motorists think that Monday is gonna be a hellacious battle with traffic, so might as well not bring a car, and bring it on Tuesday instead, since it's not gonna be as bad as Monday. Then because of that, Tuesday traffic becomes so bad.

With work: Monday is when all the weekend stuff are to be done. While this might probably be enough to ruin your week, Tuesday might become worse. Since you had so much stuff loaded on Monday, you might have overlooked some stuff and the backlog of those mistakes come on Tuesday. What happens then is that you'd be doing all your Tuesday work + Monday work all over again.

Ranting, yet again... All because I was an hour late for work. Not that I'm needed in the office, it's more of an attendance thing for salary purposes.

...eheads, "bartikal", and remembering an icon...

So i didn't get to sell the E-heads tickets Che apparently got on discount. Instead of selling it rock-bottom cheap, we decided to watch it ourselves.

EDSA was in it's regular self, being traffic all the way from Galleria. We endured, and got to MOA, where the concert was starting. Parking was a pain to look for, but we eventually got one, in one of the open lots they converted into parking to accomodate the people coming.

It was literally a sea of people. I was just confident that there aren't too many people who'd pay 5k for concert tickets...

Well, true enough, there weren't. Bad trip lang kasi I had to walk all the way back to the parking lot to keep our camera, which the ushers/guard claimed to be on the level of a "professional" camera.

Saw Dipa and Kring at the venue, and we watched the concert together with them..

Best thing about the concert: Andi Manzano, who turns out to be a friend of Kring's, was right in front of us.. Deym... If I had a pic of her then, I now have pic of us together... Which I will upload as soon as Dipa goes online and tags me on Facebook.

Great show, a treat it was to see them have a group hug at the end... Their last song, appropriately, was "Ang Huling El Bimbo". Ely lit up his piano and played a couple of lines before he kicked and jumped on it. Fireworks and all, everyone thought that was the end of it. So we left.

But then they came back and played a couple more songs. We didn't bother to go back, despite the lure of seeing Anne Curtis on stage singing an off-tune "Ligaya". We opted to go to the car so that we won't be stuck in traffic for like, forever. Their last last song was "Toyang". And by the time they were saying thank you, I was opening the doors of the car.

Overall, I thought the concert could've been louder. No, not them, but the people. It was like a freakin classroom out there. During an intermission where the E-heads seemed to show that they're done, the people didn't even shout "More!!" knowing full well that they'd be back anyway. Then again, I don't know. As stoic as Ely is, that's probably the same with how E-heads fans are.

============================================================

Who the hell?

There was this car I've been trailing in EDSA (curiously, I never caught the plate number) with a sticker that says "Bartikal" at the back window. It was a black Mitsubishi Adventure. I was trailing it since Buendia, til the roads cleared by Taft. Then going into the parking area, he was the car in front of me..

Funny thing, as we were leaving, which was ahead of everyone else, they apparently had the same idea, as he again was the car in front of me as we were leaving the parking area...

Thank You Kiko

Ndi ikaw Dipa. Francis M., the icon that he is, died last Friday. Everyone changed their status messages in YM, people were texting about it, and I didn't know what to feel. But after seeing specials about him, I always feel like crying. Such a loss.

...on getting old, modern communication, and wishlist...

On each passing day, we grow older. But I didn't seem to realize that until now...

Funny, when one remarks "Ang tagal ko na nag-aantay dito! 10 years na!" as if 10 years was such a long time. Sure it is, but I don't know if I want to accept it as "a long time" already. I feel like it's not, because everything that's happened 10 years ago feels like it was yesterday. But how did I come to the realization that 10 years was such a long time?

Well, first, there were these establishments celebrating 10 years of existence, one that I could point out (because it's the latest I've seen) is TImezone. The popular arcade is actually celebrating it's 10th year now as if it was an institution already. Though I thought it was as well, the first thing that popped into my head was "10 years pa lang sila?" Which made me feel old because it meant that 10 years is enough for an establishment to become an institution in it's field.

But the dagger goes: you know back in the day (or even these days) when your parents decide to turn up the sound systems in your home early on a Sunday morning and you wake up to an instrumental intro followed by a "Oohohnly yoooooooouhhhh...."? During those times you'd rather hear E-heads, or in my case, BSB, but radio stations decided to dedicate this one day to the old people, so that they could listen to their music. Now, Mellow 94.7 gets this bright idea to dedicate Saturday to the 90's, like it was the classics. Demmit. The thing that gets me is that I'm singing along to 98%of the songs they play on a Saturday!

Cellphone and Drama

I was watching "Tayong Dalawa" the other night and it got me thinking, cellphones make drama on TV or in the movies pretty much restricted.

In a scene, Kim's dad (whose name is at the tip of my tongue) argued with Jodie which led to him throwing Jodie out of the house. Kim later goes down with all of Jodie's belongings, where they talked; Jodie asking Kim to go with her, but Kim refuses because she promised her mom she wouldn't leave her siblings behind. They then bid farewell to each other.

Now, had this scene happen pre-cellphone era, it would've been dramatic. It would be the last time that Jodie and Kim would see each other, and Jodie would have no idea what Kim's dad would do to the kids. But we now have the cellphone. And whenever Kim gets hurt, audiences would think Kim's too stupid not to use her cellphone to communicate with Jodie.

Goodbye is never really "goodbye" nowadays, as the wonders of the internet and mobile communications give us plenty of means to keep in touch.

A Wishlist of Needs/Wants

I got a lot of things I want. Now that I'm working, I should've been able to get all these stuff. But personal decisions about my finances have hindered me from getting the stuff I want. Anyway, I'll put on a list which I hope I'll be able to cross out one by one eventually.

1. A Coat - I don't want a full-on suit, I could make that happen. The important thing is the coat. I could use it for like any type of pants. I think I'll get myself one by May.

2. PSP Holder - I've seen one that I like, it's going to cost me 550. This is probably the first one I could cross off my list. It's going to be handy especially once I get a bunch of movies/series in my PSP.

3. PDA Phone - At one point in my life, I thought I had it all, I had a family to love, Che to love outside of the family, a couple of cars I could borrow from them, friends here and there, a job, a Palm, a PSP, and a kickass PDA phone. Then I started to get pissed off by the phone which had several issues. Then came the night when everything was coming along great, with all my cousins present. And my mom had to call. And I had to get all worked up because of alcohol. Then because of tantrums I had to slam both my PSP and my PDA to the ground (both were in a bag. It was the bag that I slammed, actually), which caused my PDA's touchscreen to be smashed, never to be used again. Oh well, I'm now again in search of that one thing that makes my gadget line complete: a PDA phone.

4. Lava Lamp - For decorative purposes, I think I'd like to have a lava lamp in my room. I don't know who else would appreciate it, I mean, how many people would actually be able to see it? Then again, I think if I had one, I'd have to invite people to go on sleepovers and stuff just so I could show my lava lamp off. This, out of the blue, was offered by ate as a birthday gift. I have no qualms.

5. TV set - I have a small TV set in my room. It's been good enough, but lately, it's been it's having it's issues. Anyway, I'd like to have a new one, preferably bigger, but if budget would get in the way, I'd settle for something light at least.

I already have an external hard drive (salamat ulit ate) so I guess I'll keep that list first, then if I get them all crossed out, I can move on to the next ones. :)

...Thursdays and other random stuff...

i think i like thursdays... it's the day before the last day of the week, and as it seems, there aren't too many cars out on thursdays... and that's a big part of why i like it...

here's the thing: i wake up every morning, supposedly at around 6:30AM. i eat breakfast while watching "the fairly oddparents" @ nickelodeon, brush my teeth, take a bath, and if the show's not over yet, i could commute. if the show's done, i could still commute, as long as the simpsons in star world hasn't started yet... if it did, i'm sitting down til the first commercial, and will have to bring a car... if i did bring a car, and leave home past the simpsons, i'd get to the parking area by past 9 on mondays (and would have to park in megamall), a fraction before 9 on tuesdays, about 10mins before 9 on wednesdays, but on thursdays, i could be around the parking area by 8:20. (i have to be by the parking by 9am to avail of the "early bird" promo ortigas parkings have--- you park between 6am-9am and leave by 5pm-7pm and you only pay 50pesos, well, as of yesterday, 60)

i guess the most common last digits on a plate number is either 7 or 8.=P

Change within

My cousin wants to live at our place. I don't like the idea.

Here's what happened last night:

Kuya Erwin: Andun ka ba kagabi kela Uncle Owe?

Me: Wala. Anu meron?

Me: (turns back and watches TV)

This is not the first time that's happened. A couple more times it was either he's ranting about his problems at my aunt's house where he lives, or keeps insisting that we have an extra room that might accomodate him.

I don't like him. I don't know if anybody does. He thinks he's too good, he looks down on those younger than him, he never admits his mistake, and he's pikon.

Much as I loathe Diaz and Peter because of their irritatingly corny remarks, I love those guys because they're never the "pikon" types. Robert lost that love when he turned sensitive. Point is, with the kind of person that I am, I will never get along with someone who's pikon. Don't get me wrong, it's not like he wants to move out where he lives for no specific reason. He cites the people keep pushing him away from there. Don't think that those people are just "evil" and that's why they want him to move out. He's got a huge attitude problem that even you might not want to hang out with him.

But my point in bringing that up is not about being "pikon" or how I hate those kinds of people, but how people who everyone hates manage to live with themselves. As a guy who likes to be around people, I find it difficult to live a life he lives and not even make an effort to adjust his attitude so people won't loathe me as much. You, dear reader, may probably be blogging, or probably blog a lot yourself, but you do have friends who you could be with outside of the blogosphere, right? That's why you post pictures of places you've been to and people you've been with. You, or we, for that matter, have our "alone time" in the blogosphere but later we open ourselves up to people. This guy to me typifies a loser. And it's not like we never tried helping him out. Of the hundreds of drinking sessions we've had, we tried to get him to listen. He never did.

And I'm a fan of drinking sessions in times of limbo, that is, you're in speaking terms, but you feel there's a bit of tension going on between you two. Peter and I had a better understanding of ourselves after we had a session. My cousin, Jon, who has forever been a thorn in my life turned into my best friend after a session in Bicol. The same could not be said with Kuya Erwin, though. I say one thing, he says no. Jon says the same thing, he says no. Tito Vic says the same thing, he says yes. Apparently, seniority has great value to him.

How could anyone so hated be so oblivious to the fact that he needs to change?

On a Government Ad

Speaking of change, there's this ad on government TV and as it seems, on AM Radio where Mr. Shuli, the Mongolian Barbeque person, talks about the betterment of society. I'll try to type in the most I can remember:

"Tsk tsk, parati na lang People Power, gusto nyo pa ba ng People Power para sa pagbabago? (person answers: Ayoko na!) Tama. Kasi people power-people power wala naman mararating na pagbabago. Kun gusto talaga natin pagbabago, dapat simulan sa atin. Kun ikaw motorista, sunod batas trapiko. Kun ikaw botante, wag benta boto mo. Hoy, mister policeman, tama na kotong. Dapat simula sa atin pagbabago... (person shouts: Mr Shuli, sali ka sa rally, mei limandaan o!) Limandaan? Sali ako, bukas na ko bago!"

I got issues with that: 1. It takes a hit on the importance of the People Power Revolution. 2. It sends out the right message (change within) but in the process, also influences people not to stand up for what is right. 3. When the heck was Mr. Shuli the proper ambassador for such message?!

Fantasizing

i passed on a date with che to watch the games last night... at least i got a good view of the imports and how to rank them according to picking them up in the fantasy league:

1. Rod Nealy, Ginebra - How do you pass on a guy who drops 42points and 24rebounds? The guy plays with a lot of energy, and feels that his team needs him to play well. He passes well (had 9dimes last night, coming up short with a ridiculous triple double), and shoots well. He'd be a good pickup in the fantasy league, if he keeps his shooting touch and stay away from silly fouls (which are getting called A LOT these games.). Has a good inside-outside game, and probably could've had more assists, had Lanete and Intal hit their open shots.

2. Brian Hamilton, Purefoods - He's I think the second import (commentators, not my research) in the league who debuted with a triple double. 22pts-16rebs-10asts is a dream stat. Well, that was before the 42pts-24rebs-9-asts Nealy dropped last night. But with the way he was playing, he seemed to fit right into the Purefoods system, and a very good complement to the deadly James Yap. He drives and draws a lot of attention from defenders, which leaves Yap open, and gets him to drop I think 33pts the other night. He doesn't have to be spectacular, but because he's big and hustles, he'd get those rebounds for you, probably won't score as much, but with shooters abound in Purefoods, he's gonna get his assists. Triple-doubles won't be difficult for this guy.

3. Scooter McFadgon, Red Bull - After trading off what was left of the PBA's developmental team's talent (Cyrus Baguio), Red Bull was again in search of a new go-to guy. With a new coach and a new system in play, Red Bull had the whole team playing in search of that go-to guy. While the team was looking for it, Scooter McFadgon decided that while he's here, he should be the first option in offense. He scored 30+ in their loss, but if you're looking for a consistent 30+ fantasy points import, Scooter's your man. He takes ill-advised shots, but at least he takes them, as none from the rest of the team wants to. He's going to drop in the high 20's and grab some rebounds because he's big, but you gotta pick up a franchise player. You'll never lose minutes.

4. Anthony Johnson, Sta Lucia - He was less than impressive when he started, but when he got it going, he got it going. I don't have the exact stats on the guy, but he played great in the second half and was a key to the near comeback of SLR. Had he got his rhythym going early, the outcome would be totally different. I expect him to play up to his standards the next games he's going to play.

5. Shawn Daniels, Burger King - Mico Halili dubbed him, JR QuiƱahan, and Beau Belga as the poster boys of the League's newest (by name at least) team, The Burger King Titans. He's a fat guy you'd think would be able to run, and would be a bad fit for BK considering their reputation as a running team, but on the contrary, he fits alright, and surprisingly, plays consistently. Now, I was never a big fan of fat guys playing in the league (Rob Johnson hater right here), so of course I doubted Shawn Daniels. But he did carry BK (then Air21) to it's finest finish in the league at third last time he was here. And right now, fatter than ever, he stills gets to the right position at the right time.

6. JJ Sullinger, Coca-Cola - I remember seeing this guy play in TNT. He was a legit scorer, but so was a handful other guys in TNT. I don't know how TNT finished with him, but I'm pretty sure they didn't end up as champions. Now Sullinger is with Coke, and he plays the same way he did before = hog the ball. He's got a cast of young guys mixed with seasoned veterans, but he decides to take shots himself. He's not that great of a defender, but he'd likely get a bunch of rebounds.........off his misses. Still a fantasy pick-up, I'd just hate to be the coach of him.

7. Charles Clark, Rain or Shine - This is Clark's 2nd stint with RoS, so a little bit of redemption is coming to play. But he's not down here because of lack of talent, it's just that I don't think he's going to get a lot of touches with the players around him building their confidence as the cornerstone of the franchise. Jay-R Reyes and Gabe Norwood are increasingly becoming more confident with their role in the team, and their games won't help Clark's assist numbers (Reyes posts up, Norwood slashes). In the rebounding department, he's going to battle it out with both stars as well (Reyes manning his post, Norwood and his athleticism).  Fantasy-wise, I don't think he'll remain as consistent.

8. Tiras Wade, Talk N' Text - Wade's down here not because of lack of talent, but because he's got a crappy nickname which he still displays on the back of his jersey (T. Wade? Don't worry, NO ONE is going to confuse you for Flash. Oh, I guess that's what you want, 'coz "D" sounds a lot like "T"). I kid. Seriously though, with the talent and depth that TNT has, Wade doesn't have to a lot for his team to win (and that's a big fat line between "T" and "D"). He could sit in the bench for like 24 minutes and his team would still probably be up or in contention to win the game. He won't be a good fantasy pick up in that sense.

9. Galen Young, Alaska - Rosell Ellis is reportedly done with his import duties in another league, and might be available for Alaska. I know I've seen Galen play before, but I can't remember his game. Well whatever it was, it sure didn't show last night. He was practically on the bench the whole game because of foul trouble. I guess he still hasn't adjusted to the new rules. But he might be replaced anyway because of his bad showing so, doesn't really matter what I say about him...
