...homer, job quitting/hunting....
in the philippines you get to watch movies even before they hit the big screen... i, for one, have already watched evan almighty about 3 weeks ago... but for this stupid movie about a yellow-family in 2D, i can't possibly watch it on TV... although homer made an excellent point at the start of the movie that i was an idiot, watching something and paying for it when i could actually watch the movie for free at home... call me an idiot, but i wasn't going to miss THIS movie on the big screen...
i borrowed money from issa, which is shameful as i already have work and she's still studying... che didn't have money to loan me so i had to dig deep in that "kapal mukha" part of me (which is curiously not that deep) to borrow money from another Simpson fanatic in issa...
all was set... 3pm at metro east... we bought the tickets, gave it to the guard, and just as i was to hold the door for the movie house, a number of people rushed out... i smelled a weird scent coming from inside, and one of the people who went out lamented: "kuya amoy sunog po sa loob..."
WTF?!?!?!?!?!?! i waited so long to watch the movie, had to borrow money, and risk falling asleep on work just so i could watch the freakin movie and this shit happens!! 8 movie houses in the mall, and this fuckin incident had to happen at MY movie, just minutes before it starts... why can't it happen on another day or in another movie house? why why why?!?!?!
thankfully though, before i could kill myself, it was settled, and we came it right before the last trailer was played...
Funny stuff to watch out for (for you simpsons fans who wasted your life not watching it on the big screen):
1. Brokeback scene of 2 policemen..
2. Homer giving the finger to a crowd while going in the sinkhole...
3. Cartoonists losing ideas as to what to cover bart's dick while he was skateboarding naked on the streets of springfield...
4. simpsons look-alike who got arrested after bart drew something over their faces on a poster for wanted individuals...
5. homer's dumbness...
finally, im quitting my job... it might not look good on my resume that i lasted about 3 months on a call center job, but i couldn't bear to take it anymore... you get all the trash the customer feels about the company you're working for and you can't do anything about it... i worked in the student council back in college, and one of the worst part of the job is the freakin bureaucracy.... after leaving that all behind, i thought that was over.. but no... in my work, i get to make a request to another department which i cannot directly call for something a customer requests immediately... if there was a way for me to immediately resolve the problem of the customer, it would be fine for me to stay and live by that "first call resolution" the company is aiming for... but as the company operates this way, i can't possibly resolve it immediately, and would also hope and pray with the customer that this happens as soon as possible...
im am also not a utilitarian... i would rather provide customer care than resolving concerns immediately without having the customer feel good after his/her call... it is through this job that i understood why filipino nurses were said to have soft hearts that's why they are in demand by most patients, but less wanted by employers.. they waste minutes because of care...
working on a nightshift is also a pain... everybody's about to have fun, while you're on your way to work... maybe its not that bad as i get paid more... but then again, living by my thesis regarding the importance of relationships on this lived-world, i can't possibly go on with this...
so after consulting people whose opinions i value, i decided that i should stop with this work and look for another more fulfilling, more challenging work on a day shift... something that could offer personal and professional growth that i could not get from this current job...
wish me luck!:p
...1:57...
2nd game:DLSU vs UST
... got free tickets from my manager-uncle for 2 lower box seats and a patron seat... my other uncle got the patron seat for his kid, while my uncle from the other side of the family got the 2 lower box tix for P150 just so i could buy an upper a ticket for myself... stupid, it may seem, but 3 things made me do that: 1. i got it free, 2. my uncle who got the tix is from DLSU (UST &UP too,for that matter, but more of a DLSU fanatic) and 3. believe me, if you were in my shoes in the first game between the two schools, you'd even give those tickets away for free.. imagine, being a UST guy in the sea of green... che and i were keeping everything to ourselves.. kulang na lang maiutot namin cheer namin sa kakapigil...
anyway, back to the game we watched... UP lost anew, again failing miserably to finish and get that elusive first win (we have a game tomorrow, hopefully, season 68 won't happen again, when NU had just 1 win on the season, and that was against UST in the second round...)..
fastforward to UST-DLSU: back and forth game, with UST getting a good start, then DLSU getting good finishes.. after about the half, UST was playing catch-up basketball... fastforward 4th quarter: 1:57 to go, timeout UST... 12 points down to DLSU... cris asked me why we were losing... as i saw it, the game was going this way: casio and tang are doing great, DLSU is getting the defensive stops they need, the press is working out for them well, and even if the big men were no match for MVP Jervy Cruz, the guards such as casio, tang, and cholo are doing their jobs well... on the UST side: mirza is miserable, barely making a shot since the ADmU game, jervy is checked inside and can't get the ball off a pass, japs cuan still can't shoot an outside jumper (oh, that's not new...), anthony espiritu still can't make his 3's, turnovers are killing the tigers, and everytime jun cortez touches the ball, something bad happens... everybody on the UST side was down, from the players' body language to the crowd at hand... knowing coach pido's attitude, maybe he was the only one on the bench giving the players instructions not to give up... DLSU were kidding around laughing as if saying "manalo naman kayo sa min! baka umabot pa ng dekada yan!!" (note UST hasn't won over DLSU since game 1 of a finals back in the DLSU championship dynasty)... then kuya jed, an alumnus of our party and of the UST-YJ, shouted his throat out to the crowd, wanting to fire us up...
"kaya nananalo la salle, mei nagccheer para sa kanila! ginawa na ng mga players ang part nila, tayo rin, mag-cheer... baka sakali lang naman, mei oras pa naman eh..."
maybe out of respect, or maybe because of the fun of it, our line and those near him started to cheer when the buzzer sounded... UST makes a defensive stop, makes a basket... in one occassion, anthony espiritu looked like he travelled, then charged, but the call was a blocking foul with the basket counting... a three point play on an ugly play with a lucky break... but hey, i'm not complaining... its just the breaks of the game and the stupidity of the refs... about an 8point run by UST and DLSU still can't convert... less than a minute to go, UST setting up a play... after ball movement, the ball ends up at the hands of the miserable-shooting mirza wide open straight away from the basket at the 3-pt line... he fires up a three and the UST crowd goes wild... DLSU doesn't call a timeout, makes an inbound pass to tang near the corner 3 of the UST court, jun cortez suddenly appears to press him... tang swings an elbow, cortez falls: tang gets called for the offensive... UST ball, about 19 ticks left... they made a couple of shots that missed, but then when it mattered most, jun cortez got the looseball from inside the land of the giants who were fighting for it, and the fucker with an inconsistent outside shot ran a couple of steps away and took a turnaround jumper for the tie... and the fucker actually made it...UST crowd goes even wilder, DLSU could just sit... 6 ticks left, time for a final play for DLSU, casio was trapped, seemed to travel, seemed to be fouled, no call... made the pass to mangahas, who missed a good shot from the corner...
Overtime....
in this session, it was all UST... most notable could be mirza's free throws... there was a time when it was UST up by 3, mirza at the line... he missed both free throws... next time he was fouled on a similar scenario, this time with more pressure as it was only a 2-pt game, and making both free throws could make it a 2-possession game... amazingly, he nails both to ice the game... i believe he also made a basket some time during that run... pabida....
best win of the season... and everything started with 1:57 remaining...
"believe".=D

...uaap, sensitivity, and gremlins ...
what it will give you:
animation.my aunt shouts like hell now even if she's just watching on tv.
school spirit.the atmosphere around you makes you feel the whole school community is cheering for one concrete goal.and even if you don't know the cheers, you could always make a circle with your outstrectched arm and shout "go uste!"... every school has a cheer that's easy to remember.. "get that ball" "u-nibersidad ng pilipinas" "go la salle" "go fight tamaraws go fight" "go u-e go go u-e"... alright. you got me. not all schools. a cheer for nu & adamson escapes me...
stress relief.after a week's work with all the drama and frustrations, screaming your heart out should help easing out stress...
camaraderie.you don't always know people around your seat, but a winning basket on an exciting game would make you hug them or give them a high five as if you've been friends for a long time...
just some of the great things you experience in a game..
one of the bad things in uaap now? freakin sensitivity. its a f*ckin basketball game, not a free throw shooting contest... refs are turning games into one... a player doesn't go up to try to block a shot, rather just put his hands straight up. NORMALLY, that's not a foul, as long as that player is stationary and has hands straight up. BUT THEN, he gets called for a foul. star players get called for their 3rd fouls in just the 1st quarter, and that's not good because you're allowed only 5 fouls. the coach has to sit star player down until late in the 3rd quarter to avoid those fouls. games turn ugly once it becomes a free throw shooting contest... you lose the excitement, you lose the fast breaks, the steals, the dunks, the monster rebounds, everything you came to see...
hope they get younger, richer refs. younger to see better, richer so as they won't be bribed. dirty little f*ckers.
and finally, don't you notice, everytime it rains it gets more and more traffic? and later on you'd notice its not because there are so many cars, but rather because there are so many people waiting for rides that they occupy half of the road... and remember that people always tell you jokingly "ingat sa ulan, baka dumami ka" referring to you as a "gremlin" which is a creature popularized by a movie with the same title back late 80's or early 90's...?
now, putting the two together, i could only end up with a single conclusion:
there are gremlins among us. and that's the reason why traffic is hell everytime it rains. people multiply.
God help us...help those who commute that they may be able to get home despite the number of gremlins around...

...backstabbing, honesty, politics and depression...
do you like what you do?
i think i don't... its about my second month on the job and i don't think i like it... it's routine, it's degrading to some extent, and it's has a lot of restrictions... i want to help people out but these people look down on people who stutter when they speak, they seem to think we are omnipotent but we're restricted by freakin guidelines these people don't want to understand... it's not my cup of tea... the only good thing about it is that i earn something for myself... i gotta look for something else..
but then again, how many careers are there open to a Philosophy graduate who earned nothing more than a bachelor's degree? demmit...
DLSU vs FEU.
voltaire: puro bago FEU... wla pa cla napapatunayan sa first two games nila....
GAMEDAY:
Kali: FEU +18 vs DLSU. Laban ka pa rin?
voltaire: <<thinks twice, texts FEU na, but deletes it and writes:>> cge, laban lang.1.5K.:D
GAME RESULT: DLSU gets 3pt win over FEU. FEU rookie Sanga delivers big.
ODDS Result for the week: only win comes w/ UST. bets for DLSU over UE for 2k to lower 2.5k losses, and whatdoyouknow..... UE dominates DLSU in the 2nd half... everything going wrong for the latter, everything falling into place for the former...
eto na nga lang pinaggastusan ko anlaki pa... i havta stop this odds game and wait for the NBA playoffs again... tongits na lang!!:p
BACKSTABBING: talking about someone with that someone having no knowledge that you speak about him/her.
its never been a problem. it will be if the "someone" who is the topic will know that you are talking about him/her.
so don't speak of anything about anyone if you don't have that much trust in that person... if you say something then do something totally against what you said, make sure that whoever you were talking to wouldn't find out about what you did...
everyone has their own mind and the freedom to write or speak about what they think. but if its supposed to be a super personal feeling that you know could affect not only you but everyone else around you, why tell the whole freakin world about it through your web log <blog as popularly known>? you know everyone could have access to it...
college-level politics and the mess it makes through blogs, rumors, and backstabbing... the environment that i lived w/ which made me more and more disgusted on entering law school and eventually local politics... youth = hope of the nation? with these kind of youth, i'm starting to think our nation is bound to be in a worse state than how we are now...
HONESTY: a trait a number of my uncles lack that make their relationships a bit sour.
women always ask for it, but they don't always like it.<<remember zsa zsa padilla in "ako legal wife">>.. after last night, i understood why "men are from mars and women are from venus" was thought up: we come from different planets and speak different languages but ended up in the same planet. she doesn't understand him, and he doesn't understand her. if he does something he thinks would please her, she boils up. if she does something she thinks would please him, he'd get irritated. i guess it is natural for men not to understand women and vice versa... the best men and women can do is live through the misunderstandings in life and let love overcome these misunderstandings... maybe love could clear things up... misunderstandings will stay if nobody is calm and if nobody speaks his/her mind to clear things up... conversation = good, only if both have an open mind which tries to understand the other...
my week in a blog... whew...:D

...the eventful life of a philosophy graduate...
i can't these past few days, weeks, or months even... i saw my last blog entry and i believe it had something to do with a lesson learned in class...
here's a rundown of life since 4th yr philosophy:
1. after thesis bumming
2. pressured into managing an ice cream business
3. gambled on nba playoffs
4. felt ice cream business wasn't going to prosper, decided to go back bumming
5. got an offer to work as a manager for my uncle's candy factory in novaliches
6. declined, citing distance probs and possible job offers
7. felt the urge to work, sent resume, and within 3 days got hired in a call center
8. went to zambales to cap the summer
9. started work
10. got a new phone off a trade with my uncle
11. earned 1st paycheck
12. 2 days later lost everything on the paycheck
yep. call center. a job i swore i wouldn't attach my name to. but then again, i'm here... i turned down 2 jobs where i would be my own boss in favor of a job where every caller is supposed to be my boss. it seems degrading for someone to have graduated since call centers offer undergrads a chance in life. but then again, stepping into one, its harder than it seems. there seems to be more room to grow. maybe i'm just saying this to make myself feel better. but then again, i'm not alone with these sentiments. at least i'm earning.
summer source of income: nba odds.:p it won me some, but then lost me more. the longer i place bets, the more i lose. but then, it's all part of the game..:D occasionally, i do enjoy the game i love without fear of losing money... like the 1st game of ust. i lost my voice cheering our team on but 3ptrs just wouldn't go in. demmit. i felt a 3pt barrage coming up in the 4th but i didn't think it would be coming from the wrong team... aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
best hobby: sleep. yep. never changed.:p in my college days it was sleeping in class, now it's sleeping in training..:D
: early morning drinking sessions: its weird. at only 6am i have a beer bottle on my hand. by 12noon, im wasted. by 2pm im hibernating, and i wake up in the middle of the night only to sleep again.
i hate mondays. it ruins my body clock. i should be sleeping now. but i've been on my bed for about 14hrs already and i can't get myself to sleep again...
