...Thursdays and other random stuff...

i think i like thursdays... it's the day before the last day of the week, and as it seems, there aren't too many cars out on thursdays... and that's a big part of why i like it...

here's the thing: i wake up every morning, supposedly at around 6:30AM. i eat breakfast while watching "the fairly oddparents" @ nickelodeon, brush my teeth, take a bath, and if the show's not over yet, i could commute. if the show's done, i could still commute, as long as the simpsons in star world hasn't started yet... if it did, i'm sitting down til the first commercial, and will have to bring a car... if i did bring a car, and leave home past the simpsons, i'd get to the parking area by past 9 on mondays (and would have to park in megamall), a fraction before 9 on tuesdays, about 10mins before 9 on wednesdays, but on thursdays, i could be around the parking area by 8:20. (i have to be by the parking by 9am to avail of the "early bird" promo ortigas parkings have--- you park between 6am-9am and leave by 5pm-7pm and you only pay 50pesos, well, as of yesterday, 60)

i guess the most common last digits on a plate number is either 7 or 8.=P

Change within

My cousin wants to live at our place. I don't like the idea.

Here's what happened last night:

Kuya Erwin: Andun ka ba kagabi kela Uncle Owe?

Me: Wala. Anu meron?

Me: (turns back and watches TV)

This is not the first time that's happened. A couple more times it was either he's ranting about his problems at my aunt's house where he lives, or keeps insisting that we have an extra room that might accomodate him.

I don't like him. I don't know if anybody does. He thinks he's too good, he looks down on those younger than him, he never admits his mistake, and he's pikon.

Much as I loathe Diaz and Peter because of their irritatingly corny remarks, I love those guys because they're never the "pikon" types. Robert lost that love when he turned sensitive. Point is, with the kind of person that I am, I will never get along with someone who's pikon. Don't get me wrong, it's not like he wants to move out where he lives for no specific reason. He cites the people keep pushing him away from there. Don't think that those people are just "evil" and that's why they want him to move out. He's got a huge attitude problem that even you might not want to hang out with him.

But my point in bringing that up is not about being "pikon" or how I hate those kinds of people, but how people who everyone hates manage to live with themselves. As a guy who likes to be around people, I find it difficult to live a life he lives and not even make an effort to adjust his attitude so people won't loathe me as much. You, dear reader, may probably be blogging, or probably blog a lot yourself, but you do have friends who you could be with outside of the blogosphere, right? That's why you post pictures of places you've been to and people you've been with. You, or we, for that matter, have our "alone time" in the blogosphere but later we open ourselves up to people. This guy to me typifies a loser. And it's not like we never tried helping him out. Of the hundreds of drinking sessions we've had, we tried to get him to listen. He never did.

And I'm a fan of drinking sessions in times of limbo, that is, you're in speaking terms, but you feel there's a bit of tension going on between you two. Peter and I had a better understanding of ourselves after we had a session. My cousin, Jon, who has forever been a thorn in my life turned into my best friend after a session in Bicol. The same could not be said with Kuya Erwin, though. I say one thing, he says no. Jon says the same thing, he says no. Tito Vic says the same thing, he says yes. Apparently, seniority has great value to him.

How could anyone so hated be so oblivious to the fact that he needs to change?

On a Government Ad

Speaking of change, there's this ad on government TV and as it seems, on AM Radio where Mr. Shuli, the Mongolian Barbeque person, talks about the betterment of society. I'll try to type in the most I can remember:

"Tsk tsk, parati na lang People Power, gusto nyo pa ba ng People Power para sa pagbabago? (person answers: Ayoko na!) Tama. Kasi people power-people power wala naman mararating na pagbabago. Kun gusto talaga natin pagbabago, dapat simulan sa atin. Kun ikaw motorista, sunod batas trapiko. Kun ikaw botante, wag benta boto mo. Hoy, mister policeman, tama na kotong. Dapat simula sa atin pagbabago... (person shouts: Mr Shuli, sali ka sa rally, mei limandaan o!) Limandaan? Sali ako, bukas na ko bago!"

I got issues with that: 1. It takes a hit on the importance of the People Power Revolution. 2. It sends out the right message (change within) but in the process, also influences people not to stand up for what is right. 3. When the heck was Mr. Shuli the proper ambassador for such message?!

Fantasizing

i passed on a date with che to watch the games last night... at least i got a good view of the imports and how to rank them according to picking them up in the fantasy league:

1. Rod Nealy, Ginebra - How do you pass on a guy who drops 42points and 24rebounds? The guy plays with a lot of energy, and feels that his team needs him to play well. He passes well (had 9dimes last night, coming up short with a ridiculous triple double), and shoots well. He'd be a good pickup in the fantasy league, if he keeps his shooting touch and stay away from silly fouls (which are getting called A LOT these games.). Has a good inside-outside game, and probably could've had more assists, had Lanete and Intal hit their open shots.

2. Brian Hamilton, Purefoods - He's I think the second import (commentators, not my research) in the league who debuted with a triple double. 22pts-16rebs-10asts is a dream stat. Well, that was before the 42pts-24rebs-9-asts Nealy dropped last night. But with the way he was playing, he seemed to fit right into the Purefoods system, and a very good complement to the deadly James Yap. He drives and draws a lot of attention from defenders, which leaves Yap open, and gets him to drop I think 33pts the other night. He doesn't have to be spectacular, but because he's big and hustles, he'd get those rebounds for you, probably won't score as much, but with shooters abound in Purefoods, he's gonna get his assists. Triple-doubles won't be difficult for this guy.

3. Scooter McFadgon, Red Bull - After trading off what was left of the PBA's developmental team's talent (Cyrus Baguio), Red Bull was again in search of a new go-to guy. With a new coach and a new system in play, Red Bull had the whole team playing in search of that go-to guy. While the team was looking for it, Scooter McFadgon decided that while he's here, he should be the first option in offense. He scored 30+ in their loss, but if you're looking for a consistent 30+ fantasy points import, Scooter's your man. He takes ill-advised shots, but at least he takes them, as none from the rest of the team wants to. He's going to drop in the high 20's and grab some rebounds because he's big, but you gotta pick up a franchise player. You'll never lose minutes.

4. Anthony Johnson, Sta Lucia - He was less than impressive when he started, but when he got it going, he got it going. I don't have the exact stats on the guy, but he played great in the second half and was a key to the near comeback of SLR. Had he got his rhythym going early, the outcome would be totally different. I expect him to play up to his standards the next games he's going to play.

5. Shawn Daniels, Burger King - Mico Halili dubbed him, JR QuiƱahan, and Beau Belga as the poster boys of the League's newest (by name at least) team, The Burger King Titans. He's a fat guy you'd think would be able to run, and would be a bad fit for BK considering their reputation as a running team, but on the contrary, he fits alright, and surprisingly, plays consistently. Now, I was never a big fan of fat guys playing in the league (Rob Johnson hater right here), so of course I doubted Shawn Daniels. But he did carry BK (then Air21) to it's finest finish in the league at third last time he was here. And right now, fatter than ever, he stills gets to the right position at the right time.

6. JJ Sullinger, Coca-Cola - I remember seeing this guy play in TNT. He was a legit scorer, but so was a handful other guys in TNT. I don't know how TNT finished with him, but I'm pretty sure they didn't end up as champions. Now Sullinger is with Coke, and he plays the same way he did before = hog the ball. He's got a cast of young guys mixed with seasoned veterans, but he decides to take shots himself. He's not that great of a defender, but he'd likely get a bunch of rebounds.........off his misses. Still a fantasy pick-up, I'd just hate to be the coach of him.

7. Charles Clark, Rain or Shine - This is Clark's 2nd stint with RoS, so a little bit of redemption is coming to play. But he's not down here because of lack of talent, it's just that I don't think he's going to get a lot of touches with the players around him building their confidence as the cornerstone of the franchise. Jay-R Reyes and Gabe Norwood are increasingly becoming more confident with their role in the team, and their games won't help Clark's assist numbers (Reyes posts up, Norwood slashes). In the rebounding department, he's going to battle it out with both stars as well (Reyes manning his post, Norwood and his athleticism).  Fantasy-wise, I don't think he'll remain as consistent.

8. Tiras Wade, Talk N' Text - Wade's down here not because of lack of talent, but because he's got a crappy nickname which he still displays on the back of his jersey (T. Wade? Don't worry, NO ONE is going to confuse you for Flash. Oh, I guess that's what you want, 'coz "D" sounds a lot like "T"). I kid. Seriously though, with the talent and depth that TNT has, Wade doesn't have to a lot for his team to win (and that's a big fat line between "T" and "D"). He could sit in the bench for like 24 minutes and his team would still probably be up or in contention to win the game. He won't be a good fantasy pick up in that sense.

9. Galen Young, Alaska - Rosell Ellis is reportedly done with his import duties in another league, and might be available for Alaska. I know I've seen Galen play before, but I can't remember his game. Well whatever it was, it sure didn't show last night. He was practically on the bench the whole game because of foul trouble. I guess he still hasn't adjusted to the new rules. But he might be replaced anyway because of his bad showing so, doesn't really matter what I say about him...
